Sustainable materials are becoming more widely available (and also more diverse) meaning the aesthetics of your printing doesn’t have to be compromised in order to be kinder to the planet.

Chemistry-Free Platemaking
At Kirkwood, we’ve invested in chemistry-free platemaking systems and pressroom technologies that eliminate the need for harmful processing chemicals. This shift significantly reduces hazardous waste and contributes to a healthier, safer environment for our press operators—all while supporting our sustainability goals.
Paper Donations
We’re proud to give back our local community in meaningful ways. One example: when we have surplus or unused paper materials, we donate them to nearby schools and nonprofit organizations. These donations help educators and community groups produce everything from posters and flyers to booklets and creative projects—extending the life and purpose of our materials while supporting those who need it most.
Paper Recycling & Responsible Sourcing.
At Kirkwood, recycling is part of our everyday operations—from office paper and packaging to production waste. We also take it a step further by prioritizing the use of house paper stocks that include at least 30% Post-Consumer Waste (PCW). This choice helps reduce demand for virgin pulp, saving trees, energy, and water with every sheet we print.
Soy-Based Inks
At Kirkwood, sustainability isn’t a buzzword—it’s a responsibility. That’s why we proudly use soy-based inks as an eco-conscious alternative to traditional petroleum-based inks.
Derived from renewable soybeans, these plant-based inks are biodegradable, emit fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and support cleaner air and safer working conditions in our pressroom. Unlike conventional inks, which can be harsh on the environment during production and disposal, soy inks break down more easily and align with our commitment to responsible manufacturing.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Systems
Kirkwood’s use of reverse osmosis (RO) water systems in our platemaking and pressroom operations has a measurable environmental benefit. By removing impurities and minerals from the water, RO systems enable cleaner, more efficient printing—which reduces chemical usage, extends the life of equipment, and minimizes the need for press adjustments. This results in less waste, lower emissions, and fewer resources consumed, supporting our ongoing commitment to sustainable production practices.
